The Story Behind Lavender Oaks Farm 

This farm truly is a project of love that comes from owners Karen and Robert Macdonald. This husband and wife team purchased a 60 acre property in Chapel Hill with the vision of growing beautiful lavender fields. From there came the idea of creating a wedding and event venue. They are proud to be preserving a part of American history with the two historic barns that have been lovingly and meticulously restored.

The Main Barn, built in 1900, is a 7,000 sq. ft rustic and refined, temperature controlled space. They carefully restored century old timber frame barns. The result is an incredible setting for weddings and events. The main barn venue has a loft that allows for extra seating and also gives the barn an intimate feel. A secondary, open-air barn is available for wedding ceremonies or cocktail hour. Both of the barns overlook 4,000 lavender plants.

The Macdonalds thought about every detail for planning your special day. They designed  luxury getting ready suites, a caterer’s dream kitchen, and even an area for their lavender shop! They faced the Main Barn east so the outdoor patio gets all the afternoon shade, which is perfect lighting for your event. The covered outdoor Pavilion Barn is a beautiful setting. It can be used for your ceremony, cocktail hour, or even as a rain contingency plan. Since the couple are also artists and graphic designers, they are able to create wedding day signage. Bring your event to life with custom welcome signs, seating charts, bar menus, and more! They allow their guests to arrive as early as they want on your wedding day, and you can end the night as late as you want as long as your vendors remain to complete their lean up.

This hidden treasure is located less than five miles from downtown Chapel Hill, NC, only 30 minutes from RDU Airport, and within minutes of the nearby cities of Raleigh and Durham. Ubers, Lyfts, and large and small shuttles are able to drive on the gravel road to the farm. The team at Lavender Oaks has worked to create a refined rural setting that captivates visitors to experience the aromatic and aesthetic qualities of several lavender varieties and learn about the history and health benefits of this wonderful crop.
