The Pit Durham

The Pit Durham Event Venue is a place of gathering for love and celebration steeped in Southern hospitality and its signature dish – authentic North Carolinian barbecue. The Pit’s in-house catering team will not only provide delicious food, but it’s one less vendor you have to worry about booking, making your wedding or event planning that much simpler. The historic charm of this space makes for a minimalist design if that’s what you envision, or is a great starting place to transform into any style that suits you.

Small or Large Events at The Pit Durham

The Pit Durham is housed in a building that was once a 7-Up bottling plant. The plant operated until 1963, and was vacant until Empire Properties restored it. The Pit Durham opened in 2013, bringing comfort food to the community. Although The Pit began as a barbecue restaurant, private events became so in demand that the venue shifted and became entirely dedicated to events at the start of 2022.

The Pit Durham can host up to 120 in a single room, but there’s space for more than 350 across multiple rooms. This two-story building offers multiple ceremony, cocktail hour and reception spaces – no need for a rain plan for your rooftop event with this indoor space!

Event Space in Downtown Durham

The Pit Durham Event Venue has one of the largest rooftop spaces in downtown Durham. This makes for an incredible ceremony site with expansive city views. Or, dance the night away under the rooftop’s market lights for a reception under the stars.

When it comes to choosing The Pit, one of the perks you’ll enjoy is the exceptional food. The Pit offers classic dishes that celebrate our state’s unique culinary history. Menus reflect The Pit’s tried and true favorites, while carrying on the tradition of cooking authentic barbecue from The Pit’s sister location in Raleigh. The Pit will also fulfill any bar and beverage needs for your big day. Plus, tables and chairs, glassware, silverware and china are all included. The Pit will even coordinate your linen rentals!
