Southern Tradition at Duke Chapel Wedding

Happy Wedding Wednesday! Today, we’re thrilled to share one of the real weddings featured in Southern Bride & Groom’s 2017 magazine: Eliza and Matt who were married at the iconic Duke Chapel when it reopened after renovations.

Eliza Peak and Matt Truwit were participating in internships at the University of Virginia when their assignments brought them together. Business lunches became dinner dates, and by the fall, despite Matt returning to Duke University for school, the two began to date. Three years of long distance and ACC rivalry were followed by a joint move to Nashville for graduate school and career. Two years after that, Matt planned an elaborate scavenger hunt that left little doubt in Eliza’s mind what would come at the end – a beautiful proposal.
As a third-generation legacy student at Duke University, Matt was determined to have a Duke Chapel wedding. He and his bride-to-be camped out in a tent for several days in the middle of summer heat and rain storms to secure their date.
“All the girls at Alexia’s Bridal were all so accommodating through multiple late plane flights resulting in delayed fitting appointments,” said Eliza. “They made the entire dress selection process stress-free and super special.”
“Riley MacLean goes above and beyond the call of duty,” said the couple. “We felt so comfortable with him – he truly made us feel like friends and not just clients, not to mention his photos capture the authenticity of our special moments like no other.”
