Fabulous Indian Fusion Wedding Planned by K Scott Weddings

Pooja Makam and Robert “Rob” Weston were freshmen at UNC Chapel Hill when they first met in 2006. Ten years later, Rob made history by swiping right on Pooja’s dating profile. When an erupting volcano threatened to ruin Rob’s surprise proposal, he simply changed the destination. Rob got down on one knee along to the sandy cliffs of Kona, Hawaii.

The couple’s wedding was equally as romantic to his proposal, thanks to planner Keisha Scott of K Scott Weddings. Keisha helped Pooja and Rob plan and execute a Sangeet-Mehndi party with local flowers, a traditional rehearsal dinner, a fusion Hindu-Christian ceremony and a grand reception with speeches and a massive multi-family dance compilation.

“If you’re going to have a big wedding, get a planner from day one,” Pooja advises. “Have a vision in mind and stick with it and don’t worry about the details on your day. If something goes wrong, not one will really notice; remember to focus on the reason for a wedding – to celebrate!”

“Keisha Scott with K. Scott Weddings made our vision come true,” Pooja says. “We worked together on concepts and I did a little DIY with things like the menu cards, but everything else was her team who did a beyond amazing job!”

Pooja and Rob’s wedding theme was romantic garden floral glam with a blush and gold color palette. The ceremony took place at The Sutherland and the reception was hosted at the Raleigh Marriott City Center. Keisha helped give the 350+ guest wedding a personal feel by incorporating the couple’s favorite foods and signature cocktails. Keisha’s team was environmentally conscious by reusing florals from one event to the next. For example, their Mandap and aisle-way florals were seamlessly repurposed for the reception.

Throughout the wedding Pooja and Rob had multiple outfit changes to represent their blended cultures. Their wedding website offered guests helpful information such as a detailed itinerary and dress code and answers to questions such as “What should I know if I’ve never been to an Indian wedding?” and “How do I tie a Sari?”. When the bride asked her fiancé if he wanted to do a separate Chrisitan ceremony Rob said “We’re getting married and creating a life together, why not do the same for our ceremony.”

One of the most special moments of our wedding was seeing how many friends and family members had secretly practiced for weeks to perform a dance at our reception! We knew many of them had never done an Indian dance or were nervous so seeing everyone out there was truly amazing! We were stunned and still replay that video time and time again!
