Danielle Flake Photographs Classic Black-and-White Wedding at Board & Batten

Black-and-White Wedding at Board & Batten | Barn Venue in Lexington, North Carolina

Shannon and Spencer were introduced to each other through a mutual friend of Spencer’s brother. After their initial meeting in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and despite Spencer mistakenly calling Shannon “Sharon” at their first encounter, their connection was undeniable. “In that moment I thought ‘see ya later,’ but, little did we know, that story would end up being a favorite of ours to tell,” Shannon says. She later reconnected with Spencer, and the pair dated for four years before they planned a classic black-and-white wedding at Board & Batten on April 2, 2022. Shannon’s uncle, Trey Burns, officiated the event.

Board & Batten, an elegant barn venue nestled in Lexington, North Carolina, provided the perfect backdrop as well as catering and getting-ready suites for the wedding party. From its picturesque outdoor patio and lawn to its indoor ceremony space adorned with a grand stone fireplace, it was “a dream come true” for the couple’s classic spring wedding, Shannon says. The venue offered a station-style dinner, ensuring that their guests enjoyed a delightful culinary experience. To add a touch of fun to the night, a late-night order of Papa John’s pizza kept everyone satisfied and dancing the night away.

Danielle Flake Photography Captures Unforgettable Moments

Danielle Flake Photography took Shannon and Spencer’s engagement photos and also documented their wedding day. “From [Danielle’s] organization during the months leading up to the wedding, the day of the wedding, and after – she is outstanding,” Shannon says. “She captured every special moment of the day, plus so much more.” Danielle snapped family, wedding party and couple portraits while Point200 filmed the event to create a video for the couple to cherish forever.

When it came to planning the wedding, the couple had a clear vision in mind. They wanted an elegant and fresh atmosphere with a classic black-and-white color palette that would stand the test of time. The groomsmen looked dashing in their sleek tuxedos, while the bridesmaids and maid of honor donned beautiful white floor-length dresses. Shannon and Spencer deliberately avoided accent colors, as they wanted to create a forever classic aesthetic. To add a touch of nature’s beauty, they incorporated hints of greenery throughout the decor. The result was a stunning event that perfectly reflected their personal style and created an unforgettable experience.

A Dramatic Exit and Advice to Engaged Readers

The celebration continued as guests danced the night away to the Queen City Band. As the night drew to a close, Shannon and Spencer bid farewell to their loved ones, walking through a tunnel of sparklers, surrounded by wishes for a lifetime of happiness.

As they embark on their next chapter, Shannon and Spencer offer advice to engaged couples. They encourage early planning and emphasize the importance of staying true to oneself amidst the whirlwind of opinions. Their wedding day had its unique moments and imperfections, but those didn’t overshadow the overwhelming love and joy they felt.
