A Historic Venue in Raleigh and its Carriage House Ballroom
The Merrimon-Wynne House is one of the most renowned wedding venues in NC. Nestled in the historic Oakwood neighborhood of downtown Raleigh, the historic home is a perfect Southern backdrop for a wedding. Owners Jodi and John Strenkowski designed its restoration with weddings in mind.
You’ll love its two getting ready suites, and charming character of each room in the original propoerty. The home sits on a gorgeous piece of land on Blount Street – with a giant event lawn which can be used for ceremony, cocktails, or even tented for a reception. Most large receptions take place in the Carriage House, a grand pavilion built for celebrations!
The property boasts the most charming and beautiful suites for a bride and her best girls to get ready for the day ahead as well as the groom and his groomsmen – both with plenty of natural lighting! After a couple gets ready they can head out to the grand staircase or the front porch. Which are both picture perfect areas for first looks and wedding portraits.
There is a charming green lawn for the perfect outdoor wedding ceremony or reception, as well as a Carriage House – a large Raleigh reception venue that can either pose as a backdrop for a ceremony or serve as an indoor wedding space. The Carriage House has beautiful chandeliers, exposed beams and large doors that open out to a pergola and lawn. It is perfect for a wedding reception and well suited to a fabulous dance party.
The property is beautiful by itself – but a couple can always drape market lights across the lawn, add floral arbors and so much more to bring their personalities to life within the space.
Please note, they offer rehearsal dinner packages as well!
The Merrimon-Wynne House dates back to 1876 when it was originally built. It was the home to a chief justice of the NC Supreme Court. Later, it was a dorm for Peace College. Finally, the Strenkowski family purchased it to create a special event venue. It was moved from its original location and restored in 2014 to reflect its historic beauty, while bringing it up to date for current event needs.
