A Romantic, Moody Wedding with Pops of Orange

An Instant Connection Lead This Couple to Tie the Knot in Hillsborough, NC

Learning the story of this happy couple’s journey is like setting foot in a modern fairy tale. Imani first met DaRon, a native of Hurdle Mills, North Carolina, through a dating app. Imani admits to falling asleep during their first date. “[I] worked as a night shift nurse and was a very sleepy lady back then,” she jokes. Still, Imani says, she felt an instant connection with DaRon from their first phone call, and he confided in her that he’d been diagnosed with leukemia. A little more than nine months later, they got engaged on Imani’s 26th birthday.

Seasoned Wedding Planner Lauren O & Co. Organizes Romantic, Moody Celebration

“It’s not a typical timeline, but it was perfect for us,” Imani says. The couple turned to Lauren O & Co., led by experienced event planner Lauren O’Brien, to organize a romantic, moody soiree. Lauren played a pivotal role as their wedding planner and the couple express their gratitude for her. Lauren’s exceptional dedication and ability to go above and beyond allowed them to relax and fully enjoy their special day.

“We also wanted to support as many Black-owned wedding vendors as possible,” Imani says. “We believe that Black-owned businesses don’t get enough appreciation in this industry, so we made that a priority.”

Additionally, the couple hired Rocky Top Catering for their reception. “The food and service were amazing during [the] wedding,” Imani says. She says the emotional day turned out beautifully. “We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us … we wanted a space for our fairy tale to come true.”

The Cupcake Shoppe Bakery created a beautiful cake featuring white buttercream and hand-painted buttercream flowers.

A Day to Remember at The Cloth Mill at Eno River

The couple were married on May 29, 2022, at The Cloth Mill at Eno River, a refurbished cotton mill and warehouse in Hillsborough, North Carolina. Right after the wedding ceremony, they took part in a private communion with only their pastor and his wife accompanying them. Lauren says the moment gave them a chance to “thank God for His blessing of bringing us together.”

Imani and DaRon looked stunning in their wedding attire. Imani found her Casablanca Bridal dress at New York Bride and Groom in Raleigh. Details throughout the event added pops of rusty orange and terracotta to the neutral color palette. The pair also incorporated DIY decor and signage, along with DaRon’s custom-made suit, which featured their engagement photos on the inner lining.
