Simply Elegant Military Wedding at downtown Raleigh wedding venue The Merrimon-Wynne House
The Merrimon-Wynne House in Raleigh served as the picture perfect venue for Nerea and Richard’s NC military wedding. A local gem, the Merrimon-Wynne House lends itself perfectly to a simply elegant wedding affair. It is a historic Southern home on Blount Street, which has been re-purposed for weddings and events.

Nerea and Richard met through a cycling club; they were set up on a bike ride together and the rest is history! Richard proposed to Nerea on a rooftop terrace in Bosphorous in Istanbul, Turkey. They had a formal military procession at their NC wedding. The imagery from military weddings always makes our hearts skip a beat.
Historic Wedding Venue in Downtown Raleigh – The Merrimon-Wynne House
Avid travelers who envisioned a minimalist yet worldly wedding, the bride and groom chose a neutral pallet that could be easily mixed and matched in all aspects of their wedding decor and attire. Needless to say, the simple, neutral color scheme meshed stunningly with The Merrimon-Wynne House’s Southern charm.
When planning their Raleigh wedding, the couple fell in love with this Southern wedding venue. It was an easy pick for their wedding reception. The bride shared “they were the utmost of professionals and made everything incredibly easy.”
Just a few blocks away from the hubbub of downtown Raleigh, this little nook of downtown feels serene and private. The Merrimon-Wynne House itself has a getting ready room for the bride and the groom, and each room is flooded with natural light for amazing portraits.
The downstairs of Merrimon-Wynne is available for cocktail hour or standing events. Most wedding receptions take place in the Carriage House that sits on the property’s lawn. Nerea and Richard’s wedding utilized this format.

The bride wanted her bridesmaids to feel comfortable and let them pick their own dresses while staying in a neutral color palette. “I wanted my bridesmaids to have the ultimate choice and flexibility when choosing their dresses. It worked out wonderfully and they all looked gorgeous,” shared Nerea.

With their neutral theme the bride and groom chose natural film photographer, Casey Rose Photography. The bride said, “Casey is the best! She’s not only a gifted photographer, but I feel lucky enough to consider her a friend. She made everyone feel at ease and natural.”

Traveler Themed Wedding Reception at The Merrimon-Wynne House
The couple are world travelers and seek out adventure in their lives and wanted to incorporate this passion within their Raleigh wedding. They had their tables named after places they have visited and their seating chart was a world map showing their travels. The gorgeous white walls of The Merrimon-Wynne House allowed for beautiful details to be showcased and spotlighted at this wedding.

Shown below is the beautiful sparkler exit shot right outside of The Merrimon-Wynne House. Nerea is currently a helicopter pilot in the Army and teaching at West Point and Richard serves in the Army Reserves while also working with a non-profit along the Hudson River.
