Kendal and Steven’s New Bern Vow Renewal Celebration

Kendal and Steven never had the big wedding they dreamed of. Instead, they decided to host a New Bern vow renewal celebration six years after they officially tied the knot. Surrounded by loved ones and friends on some of Steven’s family land in New Bern, they said ‘I do’ again!

Kendal and Steven met in fall of 2011 while working together at Texas Roadhouse. Their first date was on Christmas Eve and it was a night to remember! After two years, Steven joined the military in 2013 and they got married in October of 2013 while stationed in Georgia. They tied the knot under a gazebo with a view of a beautiful pond by an army chaplain. After that weekend they drove back to North Carolina and Steven officially proposed on the train tracks overlooking downtown Wake Forest. Although the order of things was a bit backwards, it was the perfect way for Kendal and Steven.

Antique and Eclectic New Bern Vow Renewal

Kendal brought her vision of an antique eclectic vow renewal together for the perfect day! The bride wore the dress her grandmother bought for her first wedding and had her bridesmaids wore dresses in different colors and styles to add their personality to the wedding.

Kendal wanted their New Bern vow renewal to feel like home. In order to achieve that atmosphere, she added walls of pallets to hang special pictures on. They also brought in thrifted furniture to add to the eclectic theme of the day. The thrifted furniture served as lounge areas for the reception.

An Intimate Vow Renewal Setting in New Bern

Because the vow renewal took place on Steven’s family’s land in New Bern, there was no wedding coordinator. After researching a ton, Kendal hand-selected vendors through the Heart of NC Weddings website. The bride says she selected vendors who made her feel the most comfortable and who would make the process go smoothly.

The officiant for the New Bern vow renewal was Steven’s great uncle who also officiated for his parents wedding thirty years before. This created a personal vow renewal ceremony for everyone to enjoy. Friends and family gathered from all over the country to celebrate the renewal of vows between Steven and Kendal.

An Axe-cellent Reception

Kendal and Steven wanted something different and fun to remember from their special day, so they brought in an Axe Throwing company for entertainment. Steven loves axe throwing and bringing this to their New Bern vow renewal reception was a great way to tie in a fun and personal element for the reception. The owners of Beary the Hatchet helped everyone learn how to throw an axe and have a ton of fun!
