Ringing in the New Year with Fancy This PhotographyÂ
Finding a photographer who is able to cover your New Years Eve wedding can be difficult! For two reasons: Number one, they might already have personal plans with their family and friends that day. Number two, working a New Years Eve wedding is an exhausting commitment. Think about it, your photographer will be with you from the early morning hours until past midnight! That takes some serious stamina y’all. Which is why we have so much respect and admiration for Nikki of Fancy This Photography. Not only did she capture beautiful photos of Stacy and Alex’s wedding, she did it with enthusiasm and humor. Bride Stacy says that Nikki was more than just a photographer, she was also a local wedding planning resource. Â
“She knew the area so well and had perfect recommendations for our engagement photos and my bridal portrait session. She really got to know us and somehow made our personalities show in all of her work. Can’t say enough good things about this lady!”Â
Alex & Stacy’s Love StoryÂ
In 2015, Stacy moved to DC and began a new job at the US Department of Agriculture. On her first day of work, she was surprised to find a handsome young man occupying her cubicle. Turns out, the first three weeks of Stacy’s new job overlapped with the last three weeks of Alex’s work detail. Alex, being a southern gentleman, took pity on the “new girl” and invited her to DC hangouts. Stacy agreed to watch college football and try a local brewery with this cute new friend. All the while, not telling him that she in fact knew the DC area fairly well from past internships. What began as a friendship transformed into a sweet romance. After Alex’s three weeks in DC were up he reluctantly moved back to Raleigh. Stacy and Alex overcame the distance with frequent phone calls and visits, until 2017…Â
Life is Full of Surprises
Stacy came back from the hair salon to find a dozen red roses waiting for her on the counter. Alex had two more surprises, a big one and a small one. She asked for the little one first, so he went to the refrigerator and pulled out a bottle of champagne. Time for the big surprise. Alex got down on one knee with an engagement ring and asked Stacy to marry him! As if the day couldn’t get any better, Alex had one more surprise up his sleeve. Later that evening, the couple went to Carrboro to have a celebratory dinner with only Alex’s side of the family. But upon arrival Stacy was surprised to find her parents, who live in Florida, waiting at the table as well! Cheers to a life filled with many surprises, big and small.Â
Durham Wedding CeremonyÂ
Stacy and Alex said their vows at Asbury United Methodist Church in Durham, NC. This historic Durham chapel, has been a house of worship and community center for over 126 years. Even though Stacy and Alex were not members, Pastor Wes welcomed them with arms wide open. Surrounded by family and friends, the bride and groom became husband and wife. Following the ceremony they invited guests to The Rickhouse venue for a celebration of love! Â
Rockin’ and Rollin’ New Years Eve Wedding Reception at The Rickhouse
Stacy and Alex celebrated their marriage all night and into the new year! Their New Years Eve reception took place at one of the coolest warehouse wedding venues in Durham, The Rickhouse. Tables covered in gold linens from American Party Rentals gave the room a sleek shine. Black napkins, white flowers and floating candles elevated the chic industrial reception space. One of our favorite details from this New Years Eve love affair were the wedding favors. Guests took home vintage champagne coupe glasses that Stacy’s mom and friends helped her collect from local thrift stores. This creative idea brought “something old” to the event and was also useful during toasts! One table was covered in a glittery array of New Year’s hats, glasses, necklaces and other fun props. There are more than enough selfies to prove that this was an excellent addition!        Â
At the end of the night, Stacy and Alex began the new year in love and in good company. It was a wedding unlike any other, that their family and friends will always remember. Which brings us to reason #99 for why a New Years Eve wedding is a great idea: you’ll never forget your anniversary!Â
Now, for some final words of wisdom from a real North Carolina bride,Â
“Decide early on what’s most important and what’s not. Then don’t stress about the non-important things. For example, we bought our invitations from Costco and my wedding shoes from Walmart – Walmart! Because those details weren’t as important as the food or making sure our guests had plenty of cocktails. I was able to find simple, beautiful, and cost effective options quickly and check those must-haves off my list without stressing over them.”
