Finding your personal style can be a lifelong process, but if there’s one time when your attire matters most, it’s your wedding day. Luckily, there are local experts to help curate a look that embodies you. Claire Roberts, founder of Claire Roberts Style, specializes in personal styling and color analysis that enables her clients to “dress with intention.” Her style philosophy is all about creating a cohesive look that boosts confidence.

“[It’s] really thinking about who you are and what you want to present to the world,” Claire says. “What silhouettes look good on you? What colors look the best on you? Dressing with intention takes those things into account to pull together a wardrobe that reflects all of that.”

The Claire Roberts Style Process: Your Color Analysis Appointment

Claire recommends that anyone who is engaged consider utilizing styling services early in the planning process, as the ideal time to order a wedding dress is about nine months before the big day. The first step is a color analysis appointment, during which Claire and certified color analyst Kristin Findley drape the client in fabric swatches to determine the most complimentary shades for wedding day attire. According to Claire, disharmonious colors can really change your appearance. A personal color analysis helps you find the perfect palette of colors, custom to you.

“When you wear harmonious colors you look younger, stronger, alert, more beautiful, confident in your own skin … the list goes on!” Claire says.

The styling team at Claire Roberts Style works to select flattering silhouettes – whether you’re looking for a wedding dress or other style of clothing – which results in a look that’s unique and authentic to you. Claire and her team also help streamline the shopping process by accompanying clients at appointments and selecting pieces to try on, so you don’t have to waste time combing through racks.

Personal Styling Services for Your Wedding Wardrobe

Claire and her team will further consult with clients on the theme and color palette of the wedding to create a cohesive look for all the events that might surround the big day.

“We have conversations and look at pictures to help clients think through [their vision] and develop it,” Claire says. “[Then we ask,] ‘How do we craft this style and this vision and make it come to life through what they’re wearing?’”

These services aren’t just for the betrothed – the style team can help anyone curate a wedding weekend wardrobe. Clients often bring along their parents or future in-laws to have their colors analyzed and to help them choose day-of outfits.

“As the bride, mother of the bride, or mother of the groom, you want to look and feel your absolute best on the wedding day and all of the surrounding events leading up to the big day. Think of color analysis as your secret weapon,” says Claire.

Claire Roberts helped Bridget choose a bold red look for her daughter’s rehearsal dinner.

Bridget Chirico, a restaurant owner who lives in Chapel Hill, was caught in a time crunch to find a dress for her daughter’s wedding after the gowns she’d ordered online weren’t a good fit. She reached out to Claire in April and utilized her expertise to find a gown and two other outfits for the rehearsal dinner and July wedding. Claire helped Bridget choose a bold Jovani gown at Kannon’s Clothing, a formalwear boutique just a few miles from Claire’s Raleigh studio. Claire also helped Bridget’s husband, Jim Chirico, choose a suit from Kannon’s that complemented the colorful dress.

“It was exactly what I needed,” Bridget says. “I [worried], ‘How am I going to pull this off myself?’ They did a great job. It was something I would never expect from a typical mother-of-the-bride dress, but this dress pulled it all together. It was a really great choice.”

How a Personal Stylist Can Curate a Look that Embodies You

Kannon’s Assistant Manager and Buyer Mary-Kannon Jefferson can attest to the power of personal styling services when it comes to weddings. “Claire is very calm around her clients, which is a great quality, because this is a stressful time for them. Her color analysis training also adds another level to the process in putting her clients in their best colors.”

As a personal stylist, Claire advises her clients to start a Pinterest board or clip magazine photos that embody the vision they have for their personal style or wedding day look. “Take some time and think about how you want to portray yourself to the world in an authentic way,” Claire says.

She emphasizes that what you’re wearing – whether it’s a wedding gown in the most flattering ivory shade or a stylish, well-tailored suit – should feel authentic and true to you. You have the last word when it comes to your own personal style!
