It’s Wedding Feature Wednesday at Southern Bride & Groom! Today, we’re excited to share Cori and Adam’s shabby chic vintage wedding at The Sutherland in Wake Forest, NC!
Cori and Adam crossed paths through mutual groups of friends 10 years ago. What started out as a fun friendship – they were each other’s “back up” dates to events and weddings – eventually formed into a deeper relationship when feelings blossomed over one Memorial Day weekend at the lake where they first met.
It was around Christmas when Adam distracted Cori with several “decoy” gifts before revealing an engagement ring as the real surprise! Deriving inspiration from Cori’s antique 1800s diamond ring and her love of lace, shabby chic elements mixed with vintage flair for a beautiful early fall wedding at The Sutherland.
Dara Blakeley Photography captured many of the fun vintage props in the bride and groom’s portraits and pictures. Classic cars were a personal touch – provided by the bride’s father and grandfather.
For a fun surprise, Cori arranged for an ice cream cart (her husband’s favorite food). And in acknowledgement of their early years, honey bear jars were placed on all the tables for guests, as Adam carried around a honey bear in his backpack during college because the Chick-fil-A on campus didn’t have honey for their chicken nuggets.
“We chose The Sutherland because it had so much character and was the perfect setting for my vintage wedding,” Cori shares. “We also loved the fact that it was all in one place, so that guests did not have to travel to a second destination.”
“Dara Blakeley Photography was an early decision. Dara helped to calm nerves and snapped into action when things felt emotional or chaotic to kind of talk the tears down so that none of us would ‘ugly cry,'” jokes Cori. “She just made us all laugh and smile and helped those who were tough to photograph. Everyone felt so comfortable because of her.”
“We mixed and matched various rental companies as I fell in love with the plates and hardware from Classic Party Rentals. It all came together exactly how we wanted it – shabby chic minus the country/mason jar theme,” says Cori.
