From the Mountains to the Sea, a Down to Earth Love Story

Every year thousands of people flock to the Appalachian mountains in fall to catch a glimpse of the leaves as they change colors. Fiery oranges, reds, and yellows cover the mountain sides from every angle. Hiking trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway or stopping in Boone for a day of brewery hopping and shopping is a great way to catch up with friends and family – and that is just what Ryan and Emily were doing when they first met! It was on one of those mountain weekend trips with mutual friends that the two singles hit it off and became a North Carolina couple.

Ryan proposed to Emily at one of their favorite Wilmington pizza and brewery spots. With a live acoustic guitar player performing their song in the backdrop – “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne, Ryan reached into his pocket and pulled out an engagement ring. Emily gave the love of her life a tearful “yes.” Three months later Ryan and Emily danced to that same love song and shared a special moment of reflection of their wedding journey.

Planning Your Dream Wedding in Three Months

With the best wedding vendors, family, and friends all working together, their spring wedding at The Atrium was a huge success. The bride and groom would often walk by The Atrium wedding venue on date nights in Wilmington, admiring the venue’s stunning, secret garden atmosphere. Ryan and Emily both felt that The Atrium was a wedding venue that reflected both of their identities,

“Ryan and I both love plants and spending time outdoors and this venue was a way to share the things we loved with the people we loved!” -Emily

Spring Garden-Inspired Wedding Day Looks

Bride Emily’s wedding dress was a vision of soft, angelic satin floating in the sweet Wilmington sunshine. Sheer sleeves and backing gave the wedding dress a modern and elegant bridal look. Delicate white and green flowers placed in Emily’s wedding hair completed her whimsical, garden theme attire. Ryan looked dashing in a charcoal blue suit with a fantastic, floral print bow tie. Like many modern couples, Emily and Ryan chose not to have bridesmaids and groomsmen on their wedding day. This modern wedding trend eliminates extra wedding day stress or drama, and keeps the focus on the bride and groom’s love for one another.

Southern Wedding Reception with a Taste of North Carolina and New Orleans

Are you a bride or groom who believes food design and catering should be the most important priority of planning a wedding? We hear you, and we salute you. Ryan and Emily wanted their southern hometowns to shine on their wedding menus. Ryan, from North Carolina, and Emily, from New Orleans chose a fun combo of Southern flavors for their wedding guests. The result? Two stations: one with fried chicken and biscuits, and the other with po’boys – with shrimp and brisket options. Finger lickin’ good!

“The food was so delicious everyone was talking about it for weeks after the wedding!” -Ryan

The Atrium’s natural wood farm tables looked romantic with sheer white table runners, greenery, and vintage taper candles. Mix and match flower vases and votives gave the garden wedding reception a whimsical vibe. Bride Emily put on her white converses and danced the night away with the love of her life!

Bonus Wedding Planning Advice From the bride:

“Make decisions together and don’t forget to have fun! Ryan and I planned everything together so that our wedding was a representation of us as a couple. Some of my favorite memories from wedding planning were nights when we would order pizza and sit down together to make decisions on catering, invitations, floor layout or building our website. When our wedding day came we were both so excited to see how it all came together because we had planned it together!” -Emily
