Pinup Studio: Wedding Hair and Makeup Styling Squad that’s Raising the Bar in Raleigh

Pinup Studio started out as a full service salon, and now is one of the top wedding hair and makeup studios in Raleigh NC. They still have a salon, but also love to travel onsite to wedding days. And best of all, they have a mobile wedding hair and makeup studio!

The Backstory of this Punchy Pink Hair and Makeup Empire

Raleigh native Christina Kirkey grew up loving all things glamorous and pink, and dreamed of owning her own salon. She started her own business back in 2015. Since then, she has grown Pinup Studio into a 10-chair, full-service salon and freelance team that welcomes all. Pinup Studio also operates the Blush Bus, a roaming pink RV that allows for mobile salon services.

Q & A with Pinup Studio founder and owner Christina Kirkey

If someone has no idea what kind of hair or makeup style they want for their wedding day – what advice do you give them? How do you help?

“If there is a wedding dress, we always ask about the neck line is on their dress. We also ask [if] there’s anything they want to try and hide or embellish. Some people don’t want their ears to be fully out, while some hate having their hair all the way up. Some folks want to keep some front pieces down to cover their forehead. We also ask the theme of their wedding and where it is taking place … Another tip is to encourage them to look on Pinterest before coming in and having 3-5 styles pinned that they love so we can get an idea of what they like!”

Is a trial-run mandatory? What if someone is just “too busy” for a trial-run? Why is a trial-run important?

“Trial runs are not mandatory but highly recommended. For those who don’t traditionally get their hair and makeup done this can be a big change for them and a lot to adjust to. We want everyone to be comfortable and love themselves the day of. After all, these pictures will last a lifetime! Trial runs are great for the client and stylist to be on the same page so the day of goes even smoother. Our stylists specifically take notes on the style and everything used through the trial. If the client is just too busy we recommend they send a mood board over, so our stylist can get a feel for what they like. Lastly, trials are great to get done the day of portraits. This is always a great way to kill two birds with one stone.”

Does Pinup Studio offer any services that might help a wedding party relieve stress?

“We don’t offer any spa services but we do offer blowouts which is a great thing for the wedding party to do prior to the rehearsal dinner. It allows time to relax and get pampered before dinner!”
