Scott & Emily’s WinMock at Kinderton Wedding

Some things that start with East Carolina University football last a lifetime! Scott, a Greenville native, and Emily, an ECU graduate, met at a game through mutual friends in 2014. Six years later, they tied the knot with a ceremony at Fairview Moravian Church, followed by a reception at WinMock at Kinderton.

Scott popped the question while the couple was vacationing with Emily’s family at Topsail Island. The night of the proposal, the couple was walking on the beach when Emily spotted the words “Will you marry me?” written out on the sand.

“I told Scott ‘Oh my gosh look someone got engaged!” Emily said. “As i’m turning around to tell him he’s on one knee! It was a total surprise!”

Planning a WinMock at Kinderton Wedding

Planning the wedding was a family affair, with Emily and her mother taking the lead along with event planner Katherine Mann and the WinMock staff. The color palette incorporated the bridesmaids’ cornflower blue dresses, as well as white and hot pink accents and pops of gold.

“It was such a special time for my mom and I,” Emily said, “and we say all the time we miss wedding planning!”

The wedding day was originally scheduled for June 20, 2020, but COVID-19 caused the couple to push it back a couple of months to August 29, 2020. Luckily, the switch landed the big day on Emily’s parents’ anniversary. Emily and Scott were married 39 years to the day of her parents’ vows, and tied the knot in the same church.

“I have to believe August 29th was a date meant for us,” Emily said.

Priceless Photos by Danielle Flake Photography

The celebration wouldn’t have been complete without photos captured by NC wedding photographer Danielle Flake, who also took the couple’s engagement shots. Emily was impressed with Danielle’s fun attitude and how quickly the picture sessions were finished, leaving the bridal party plenty of time to enjoy the reception.

The reception was held at WinMock at Kinderton, with food by Procidence Catering and florals by Dahlia’s Floral Design. While planning a wedding during COVID-19 was tricky, the WinMock staff was fabulous as they helped re-plan the reception three times as changes were needed.

Even with all the changes and uncertainty because of COVID-19, Emily would do it all again. “Enjoy every minute of your wedding day,” she said. “It goes by SO fast and will be a blur so make sure to take some time to enjoy it just you and your new husband.”
