One of the most elegant wedding venues in Raleigh is a restored mill. Melrose Knitting Mill is a warehouse wedding venue that has an open floor plan, beautiful chandeliers, many windows that let in natural light and comes with all-inclusive event packages. This includes wedding planning services, catering and bar. All of this makes for a seamless wedding experience in downtown Raleigh.
Built in 1900, the historic building is a multi-use property – in addition to the third-story special event venue, the building’s ground floor is home to Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar, the venue’s on-site caterer.
The venue is managed by a wedding planning company that offers all-inclusive event packages. Southern Oak Events will help coordinate all that happens at the venue.
Our Heart of NC Weddings team has attended many events at Melrose Knitting Mill over the years and have always been impressed by its beauty. It is always a pleasure to work with the on-site planning team. They take great care of the couple and the wedding party.
While the warehouse space is plenty roomy for mingling, your reception and dancing, you may also choose to host your cocktail hour outside in the courtyard. Melrose also offers on-site parking for your big day.
Melrose Textile Mill, which manufactured underwear and bathing suits, served as the building’s only resident until 1930. But like many mills and factories, it closed for good just a year after the stock market crash of Black Tuesday. Until 2009, the building sat vacant, except for occasional short-term tenants – which led the space to its fortuitous introduction to Abdul Zalal in 1969. A recent Afghani immigrant, Zalal began working at the roofing company and just before 1980 he purchased the mill. Zalal installed a new roof, boarded up the windows, and left the property vacant for several years until current operator and creative director Samad Hachby approached him with a vision for creating a destination dining property on the ground floor. Hachby opened then Babylon Restaurant in 2009, a Moroccan dining concept, which served as one of downtown Raleigh’s most vibrant evening and weekend destinations until the restaurant was re-imagined to the Italian eatery it is today: Mulino Italian Kitchen & Bar.
Samad Hachby also owns another impressive, large scale event space. La Terrazza is a newly opened rooftop event space in downtown Raleigh. If modern and eclectic is more your style, check them out. The venue works with the same planning and catering team that you’ll find at Melrose.
