In today’s photo shoot from our 2016 magazine’s styled shoot spotlight series, Southern Bride & Groom fashioned a Downton Abbey-inspired tea and bridesmaids’ luncheon hosted by the bride in this modern day version of its ’20s theme. Teas were popular when The Carolina Inn was built in 1924, just as they are today. The Inn’s architecture blends elements of Southern plantation homes with neoclassical features, and offers modern sophistication in guest amenities while retaining its historic charm.

Before tea, the bride treats her bridesmaids to hair and makeup styling with a Downton Abbey look by Makeup for Your Day. The ‘maids then give the bride a pre-wedding preview of their flowing, chiffon bridesmaid dress choices from Bella Bridesmaids, enhanced by estate jewelry from Bailey’s Fine Jewelry. They each carry original era purses with floral posies and wear handmade period headbands with silk fabric ribbons designed by The English Garden.
The table is set with mixed floral china and teapots from The Carolina Inn’s collection, styled by Amanda Scott of A Swanky Affair. The Inn has afternoon tea service with a tantalizing selection of tea sandwiches, scones, sweets and tea. The original watercolor design on the invitations are from Paperbuzz and the gold-lettered calligraphy from All She Wrote Notes.
The bridesmaids wear Belk fashion from head to toe that have a 1920s flair with Southern modern elegance as they play a spirited game of croquet on lush green lawn of The Carolina Inn.
