How to Choose Floral Centerpieces to Complement Your Wedding Tabletop Decor

Three Ways to Elevate Your Reception with Eye-Catching Florals

Variety is essential to a visually dynamic reception design, says Bloom Works director EW Fulcher. He suggests combining bold and more subtle elements to achieve the beautifully balanced and elegant decor pictured here.

“You could create a really high-impact look by placing, for example, four of the statement arrangements around the edge of the dance floor or perimeter of the reception space,” EW says. “This provides variety in size and height, so that each table doesn’t look the same. It’s a great way to stay within your budget, and at the same time, gives you the ability to use some larger pieces in the mix.”

Option 1: Simple, Romantic Bud Vases and Candles

Delicate bud vases that spotlight a few blooms each are a classic option for any tabletop. In this setup, petite votives are mixed in with taller options to create a warm, layered glow and cover the space among vases. “The votive candles sit close to the table, which gives lower lighting,” EW says. “Pillar or floating candles fill in the next level, and then you have light coming from overhead or accent lighting.”

Option 2: An Elegant Compote Bowl

This low dish is ideal for round tables, offering a perfect vessel for medium-sized centerpieces. Snapdragons, spray roses, bright zinnias and vivid ranunculus, among other varieties, draw the eye in this particular arrangement.

Option 3: A Show-Stopping Centerpiece

Of course, you can’t go wrong asking your florist to go all out with a show-stopping design if it’s within your budget. “In high-profile arrangements, we use various sized blooms to [create interest] and highlight a focal point flower, like the large dahlias [shown here],” EW says.
