Danielle and Milap’s Wedding

Modern Multicultural Wedding in Charlotte, NC, Planned by ACE Weddings & Events

Danielle Marquardt and Milap Mehta met online, as many modern couples do. They found each other while both living in Danielle’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Milap, originally from Charlotte, North Carolina, had just moved to the area three months prior to complete his emergency physician residency at Ohio State University. Danielle was initially hesitant to agree to a date with a stranger but agree she did, and the rest is history!

Nearly three years later on a trip to Santorini, Greece, Milap got down on one knee at sunset and promised Danielle a forever filled with adventure and fun, to which she said agreed. The very next day, pandemic shutdowns went into effect, blocking travel and closing most of the restaurants and attractions the island has to offer. The couple were stranded in Greece for a week with access to nothing but Domino’s Pizza!

When they were able to return to the United States, Danielle and Milap got started planning a wedding that would encompass both of their cultural traditions. ACE Weddings & Events, expert NC wedding planners, took the wheel to help Danielle and Milap plan their multicultural wedding in Charlotte while the couple were living out-of-state.

An Intimate Affair in Charlotte, NC

Danielle and Milap got married a year after their engagement, on April 3, 2021, at The Ivey’s Hotel in Charlotte, and their reception was held at Sophia’s Lounge, the hotel’s upscale bar with European flair. The couple decided to limit the guest count to 50 due to COVID-19 concerns, but, Danielle and Milap also wanted to make their wedding an intimate experience for their loved ones, and ensure that they could interact and spend quality time with every person in attendance.

“We also started the celebration on Thursday – typical for Indian culture – which aided in days rather than a few hours of celebration, which we loved,” Danielle says. Overnight guests stayed at The Ivey’s Hotel and Marriott City Center Hotel in Charlotte.

ACE Weddings & Events – Expert NC Wedding Planners

“We were so nervous about planning a wedding, let alone a multicultural one, from out of state,” Danielle explains. “ACE Weddings & Events made the planning process painless, seamless and they executed all of the details to perfection.” ACE helped Danielle and Milap host a wedding that felt deeply personal and incorporated lots of elements specific to the couple. Details that the couple decided to bring into their wedding day included exchanging small, intimate gifts day-of rather than lavish ones, and having a family member – Milap’s cousin – officiate their union. Charms added to Danielle’s bouquet with photos of her brother and grandmother who passed away made the day especially memorable.

Classic Color Palette with Pops of Color

Danielle and Milap went for an elegant and timeless theme. They chose a color scheme anchored by ivory and black to spotlight the pastel-colored floral mandap under which they wed, courtesy of Carolina Wedding Belle. The ombre mandap was decorated with warm-toned florals that echoed the colors of Danielle’s bouquet from Sweet T Flowers. Jenny Le Makeup did Danielle’s hair and makeup, and the catering was provided by 5Church, now Church and Union Charlotte. Other personal touches such as signature cocktails named after their beloved dogs.

Both ceremonies were livestreamed to ensure their families across the world were able to witness their union. “[ACE Weddings & Events] are professional, detail oriented and aided in our cultures blending together in the most tasteful way,” Danielle says.

The couple currently reside in Westerville, Ohio. Milap is an emergency medicine doctor and Danielle is a neonatal intensive care nurse. Danielle advises readers to “enjoy this season of life because it truly is such a beautiful one to live in. Throughout the planning process – never forget how much you daydreamed about hopefully one day planning this day together while you were dating one another. Everyone will tell you this – and it is so incredibly true – that your day will be magical despite any glitches in your planning process. The best is yet to be.”
