This was followed by a luxurious reception at The Merrimon-Wynne House, planned by Sally Oakley Weddings & Events. Certainly, this was a celebration to remember.
From a toast with all of their closest friends to a romantic kiss at the stroke of midnight, this winter wedding was full of special moments. Every vendor went above and beyond to create a festive evening. And, in New Year’s wedding style, it was complete with fun props, Champagne tower and espresso martinis. After all, the midnight toast was a must!
A Raleigh Love Story for Virginia McMillan and Woodie Williams
Virginia and Woodie grew up down the street from each other and attended the same high school in Raleigh. But, it wasn’t until several years after college that they reconnected.
They attended separate universities. Later, two close friends set them up after both Virginia and Woodie moved back to their hometown. They hit it off right away. The rest is history!
Woodie’s proposal brought everything full circle. He took Virginia on a scavenger hunt to all of their favorite places in Raleigh. This included her grandfather’s house, and where they had their first date.
The couple and Sally Oakley Weddings & Events got right to work on planning the most celebratory nuptials: a New Year’s Eve wedding in Raleigh!

Also, she’s a regular at The Merrimon-Wynne House. So, Sally was the perfect planner for this New Year’s Eve wedding in Raleigh.

Festive Details for a New Year’s Eve Wedding in Raleigh
A holiday wedding calls for glam. Virginia wore her late mother’s wedding dress and veil. “I couldn’t have been happier with my decision to honor my mom in this special way,” she says. Plus, the elegant ballgown was perfect for Virginia and Woodie’s New Year’s Eve ceremony!
Other details that elevated the winter wedding included Christmas-themed decor. A tree inside The Merrimon-Wynne House and wreaths tied it all together. “Everyone at Merrimon-Wynne was a joy to work with,” Virginia says.
