5 Must-Read Wedding Planning Tips for the Last Minute Bride from McLean Events
This blog is for the time efficient bride and the get-it-done groom. The people who know two things for sure. Number one: they’re in love. Number two: they don’t want to spend multiple years planning a wedding! We see you, we hear you, and we’re not here to waste your time. That’s why we sat down with Erin McLean, founder of Raleigh wedding planning company McLean Events, to get the scoop on planning quick turnaround weddings.
What is a quick turnaround wedding? After talking with Erin, we’ve established this, “A quick turnaround wedding is anything planned under 10 months.” Gone are the days of patience. Today’s engaged couples have wedding vendors at the tip of their fingers via online resources. The truth is, we live in a world of instant gratification. A world of “hey google” and “siri what’s this?” systems that give us answers in seconds. But folks, wedding planning is not like the drive-thru at a fast food restaurant. Here are five must-read wedding planning tips for the last minute bride from McLean Events.
The following photos were taken by Morgan Caddell Photography. This photo shoot was a cozy in-home session for a newly engaged North Carolina couple. Morgan Caddell’s photography style focuses on deep tones and high contrast. Her style is wonderful for folks who want to see the details and feel rich emotion in their wedding images.
Tip #1: Hire a Professional Wedding Planner
Whether you want to plan a wedding in three months or in three years, you’ll want a wedding planner by your side for coordination, design and flawless execution of your big day. McLean Events has fifty years of combined experience in NC wedding planning. Fifty years of experience means expert knowledge of all-things party, including last minute weddings. McLean Events recently planned a wedding in just 12 days! When Erin sits down with her clients, she asks them one very important question, “When your guests leave, what do you want them to say?” Skip the stress and drama of planning a last minute wedding by yourself. Hire a local wedding planner who will narrow down all of your choices into a pile of “this or that”.
Tip #2: Be Honest with Yourself and Your Wedding Planner
Honesty may seem obvious, but Erin shared with us that this wedding planning tip comes down to the difference between expectations and reality. When planning a last minute wedding, communication can make or break your big day. Think of your wedding planner as your mom or best friend – in other words, don’t lie! Be completely honest with what you want your wedding experience to be and about your expectations. McLean Events specializes in getting to know each client relationship, personality, style, and more in order to let their wedding express their story as honestly as possible. With only a few months to plan your quick turnaround wedding, being honest with your planner will ensure that your wedding expectation checklist is in order.
Tip #3: Know What is Driving Your Budget.
Budget is everything. This is a universal truth. However, Erin shared with us a common misconception, “Planning a wedding in a short amount of time does not necessarily mean it will be cheaper.” If you are planning a last minute wedding, there is a good chance that popular vendors will already be booked. Limited availability of local wedding vendors can drive up prices. For this reason, it is critical that you hire a wedding planner before booking other vendors. Why? Because if you book the last available date in October at the most popular venue, you might find your budget for booking other vendors is kaput. Ultimately, your wedding budget will be driven by guest count. A smaller guest count will make planning your last minute wedding a lot easier. However, with a professional wedding planner you can plan a last minute wedding for any guest count size.
Tip #4: Be Flexible.
We’re not talking about going to more yoga classes before your wedding. This wedding planning tip is all about compassion. Try to understand that your wedding vendors are doing the best they can to accommodate your last minute wedding. For example, Erin says that a lot of vendors who sign on for quick turnaround weddings are making that client a priority. Vendors who take on your wedding scheduled to take place in three months, will often prioritize your immediate needs over other clients who are planning a wedding years away. Any wedding vendors you hire only a few months out, will be stretching their business to serve you. If you hire a florist to do your wedding in three months, be flexible when they tell you that they can’t get a shipment in of your favorite rare tropical flower in time. Or if you hire a caterer to feed your wedding guests in a month, be flexible if they tell you that seafood isn’t an option.
Tip #5: Have Trust.
Last but not least, trust that the wedding vendors you hired for your quick turnaround wedding will deliver. Either you or your wedding planner hired professionals, so sit back and relax. If the wedding vendors you hired agreed to do a last minute wedding for you, then trust that they know and understand what they signed up for. Take it from wedding planner pro Erin, “We know the local NC wedding vendors, and it’s extremely important to book vendors we know who can handle the workload of planning a quick turnaround wedding.”
