The Upchurch – A New NC Wedding and Event Venue Opened in Spring 2022
With more than 16 years of wedding photography experience under her belt, Cara Powell of f8 Photo Studios has an eye for beauty. Her latest project? Restoring the Upchurch-Williams House, a 115-year-old historic property in Apex. Cara turned the historic home plus the surrounding acreage into The Upchurch, a new NC wedding and event venue.
Originally built in 1905, the Upchurch-Williams home has a classic Queen Anne style. Imagine taking sunset wedding portraits on The Upchurch’s restored front porch! In 2015, before Cara purchased the property, the home was moved a short distance from its original location on Roberts Road. In 2018, the house and land were granted Apex Historic Landmark status. The home has been beautifully restored and updated to host events and weddings. The main floor features multiple rooms and a bar along with a wraparound porch. On the second floor are dedicated getting-ready spaces for both wedding parties. These spaces have gorgeous vintage decor paired with modern touches like a backlit vanity large enough for several guests and plenty of seating areas.
The Perfect Combination of Traditional and Modern – The Upchurch
As if restoring the historic Upchurch-Williams house wasn’t enough, Cara built an additional event space on the property. The new addition, called the Conservatory, has a chic greenhouse vibe that complements the more traditional Southern house. Between the buildings is the 2,000-square-foot Magnolia Lawn, a green space ideal for your outdoor ceremony of up to 225 or for a sprawling cocktail hour. Cara and her team also installed a new tiered patio area behind the Upchurch-Williams House.
