This month’s featured photographer is Riley MacLean – a fine art wedding and portrait photographer based in Durham, NC.
Riley has accompanied SB&G for several years to New York’s Bridal Fashion Week and served as our official camera man. Each year, we pour over Riley’s pictures that perfectly showcase the latest fashion trends and choose which to feature on our blog. We also featured one of Riley’s real weddings at The Rickhouse in our 2016 magazine and on our blog this week. Whether digital or film, his artistic style and vision sets him apart.
“There are probably a million things I could say about my hobbies and passions but they all disseminate into the same thing – I absolutely love working with people and making art. That passion keeps me working late at night, and gets me out of bed in the morning. Mostly I’m incredibly grateful to have spent more than a decade working with awesome couples who appreciate fine art, laughter, adventure, and a willingness to share some authenticity in their lives,” Riley shares.
Riley MacLean is one of the rare photographers out there with a four-year degree in photography. Because of this, he has a dedicated love of film, a deep and complex understanding of technical lighting, and “very few career options if this one doesn’t work out,” he says half-joking. He has also recently become one of only a dozen professional photography studios to offer tintype portraits to the general public.
He considers himself to be a dreamer, forever scheming up complex projects with lofty aspirations, and photography gives him the means to tell complex human stories in a simple, honest way.
