Something Blue Inspiration for Your Wedding

It’s a sing-song wedding tradition we’ve heard a million times and it comes from an Old English rhyme: “Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe,” (though mainly only the British still practice the sixpence part) and each element represents a piece of good luck. Something old for continuity; something new for optimism for the future; something borrowed for borrowed happiness; and something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity.

When it comes to incorporating “something blue” into your wedding, don’t be afraid to think outside the box! Maybe it’s blue bridesmaids dresses, jewelry, decor, or even blue wine for a toast! See below for something blue inspirations from several SB&G vendors.

Toast
Blanc de Bleu is the world’s first blue sparkling grape wine. Fill your flutes and add an unexpected (and delicious) element of blue to your wedding!

Created in 2006, Blanc de Bleu Cuvee Mousseux from Bronco Wine Company in California is made from grapes grown in the quiet vineyards of Northern California. With an added hint of blueberries, Blanc de Bleu is a dry, crisp, delicate sparkling wine, and perfectly refreshing. Another fun way to add blue to your big day.

There are actually several wedding gowns on the market that incorporate a hint of blue, such as the David Tutera gown from Savvi Formalwear (below left) and the Liancarlo gown from Alexia’s Bridal (below right). The Naeem Khan gown photographed on the runway incorporates blue with lovely embroidered flowers.

In fact, this light blue theme goes perfectly with the 2016 Pantone color/s of the year: Rose Quartz and Serenity (a cool, tranquil blue). This “serenity” shade can also be incorporated in the bridesmaid dresses, like the Frill Clothing bridesmaid dresses below.

Flowers & Accessories
Flowers, such as the hydrangeas pictures in this bridal bouquet from Flowers by Gary here, is another beautiful way to add pops of blue to your look.

And jewelry, whether a family heirloom (which would also cover the “something old” or “borrowed” category), or something new, like the stunning blue pendent necklace on the bride below from Bailey’s Fine Jewelry is another easy way to have that something blue category covered.Blue bridesmaid dressesBlue pendant necklace for bridePhotos: Walters & Walters Photography

There are also different shades of blue! Check out these fun, colorful “Robin’s Egg” blue monogrammed bangles from Moon & Lola. They’d make the perfect blue bridesmaid gifts!

Decor and party favors, like these adorable blue candles from Oak City Candles of Raleigh, would make a perfect blue accent.

In the Triangle, there’s the added bonus of Duke and Carolina competing blues! If you and your spouse are a fan of either, why not have some fun with the sports theme – give your guests blue pom-poms to wave as you exit!
