A wedding is made of many things: teary-eyed vows, cake-cutting and treasured moments with loved ones. But the best way to ensure that your reception is absolutely electric is to have some rockin’ music.

EastCoast Entertainment Raleigh is one of the Triangle area’s most trusted and consistent sources of wedding entertainment, offering diverse acts, from bands and DJs to comedians and other specialty artists. We chatted with Erin Collums, director of marketing at ECE, about what makes them unique.

Seamless Wedding Entertainment

Q: What makes ECE Raleigh a go-to source for wedding and event entertainment?

A: EastCoast Entertainment (ECE) has been creating unforgettable wedding memories for nearly 50 years. With relationships spanning more than 8,000 artists nationwide, we give couples access to an unmatched roster of exclusive bands, DJs and specialty acts. What sets ECE Raleigh apart is our combination of local expertise and national resources. Our consultants live and work in the Triangle, know the area’s venues and planners inside and out, and help couples navigate every detail of booking entertainment with confidence.

Q: When did ECE expand to the Triangle?

A: ECE Raleigh opened in 1997 as one of EastCoast Entertainment’s legacy offices and has been a trusted part of the region’s wedding and event community ever since. The office is co-led by Barry Herndon, a Durham native and original vocalist for the legendary Sleeping Booty, who has been performing and booking talent in North Carolina for more than three decades, and UNC graduate Rebecca Thomas, who joined ECE in 2015 after starting her career at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.

Together, Barry and Rebecca bring unmatched local expertise, deep industry ties and strong venue and planner relationships – giving couples confidence that their entertainment will be seamless, unforgettable and perfectly matched to their vision.

Q: What sets ECE Raleigh’s wedding bands and DJs apart from other entertainers in North Carolina?

A: Our artists are seasoned, professional musicians with decades of experience playing together – and a passion not just for music, but for creating unforgettable experiences. Many of our bands, like Sleeping Booty and Liquid Pleasure, are regional icons, while others such as Punch, Night Years, Bounce Party Band and Irresistible Groove, are among the most sought-after groups across the Carolinas and beyond.

Apart from the talent itself, couples benefit from working with ECE’s dedicated consultants who know the Triangle’s venues and logistics inside and out. That expertise ensures entertainment that’s seamless, stress-free and perfectly matched to each couple’s celebration.

Q: You work regularly with some of the area’s most iconic wedding venues – The Carolina Inn, The Merrimon-Wynne House, The Angus Barn Pavilion and Fearrington Village, to name a few. How does that partnership enhance the couple’s planning experience?

Because our team has long-standing relationships with Raleigh’s most sought-after venues, we know what works best in each space – from acoustics and stage setup to load-in logistics. That insider knowledge means couples can rest easy knowing their entertainment will be seamless, allowing us to give valuable advice during the planning process.

Q: What types of entertainment are most popular for Raleigh and Triangle weddings right now?

A: Live bands remain the most popular choice. One growing trend is hybrid entertainment – pairing a DJ with live musicians to create nonstop energy throughout the night. Our Raleigh office represents some of the region’s most in-demand wedding bands, including Punch, Night Years, Bounce Party Band, Liquid Pleasure, Sleeping Booty and our Band-DJ hybrid act, SPIKED featuring DJ Elixir.

Q: Do you have entertainment options tailored for different parts of the wedding day?

A: Absolutely. We provide entertainment for the entire wedding weekend, from the welcome party and rehearsal dinner to ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after-party and even next-day brunch. Think string quartets for the ceremony, acoustic duos for cocktail hour, a high-energy band for the reception, and a DJ or specialty act to keep the after-party going late into the night.

Q: What wedding entertainment trends are you seeing for 2025 and beyond?

A: Couples are prioritizing experiential moments that surprise and delight their guests. We’re seeing more hybrid band and DJ combos, late-night after-party entertainment and specialty performers (like live painters or interactive musicians). Flexibility is also key. Couples want entertainment that can adapt to multiple spaces or transitions throughout the day.

Q: What are some creative entertainment ideas you’ve seen work well at weddings?

A: We’ve helped couples incorporate everything from gospel choirs at the ceremony to roaming jazz trios during cocktail hour to LED drummers at the after-party. Silent discos have also become a fun late-night option, giving guests the chance to dance to their choice of music and keeping the party going without concern for noise restrictions. Specialty acts like these add a personal, memorable twist and create multiple standout moments throughout the weekend.

Wedding Entertainment Booking Timeline

Q: What advice would you give a couple starting their search for Raleigh wedding entertainment?

A: Book early! The best bands and DJs often secure dates 12-18 months in advance. Once you’ve set your wedding date and venue, entertainment should be at the top of your planning list. From there, think about the vibe you want for your wedding day. Do you want a high-energy dance party, an elegant string ensemble for your ceremony or something completely unexpected? Talking with an experienced ECE consultant helps narrow the options and ensures you’re investing in entertainment that reflects your style and vision.

Q: How far in advance should couples book their wedding band or DJ?

A: We recommend securing entertainment 12-18 months ahead of your date. Top bands and DJs often book a year or more in advance, so the earlier you start, the more options you’ll have. If you’re planning a shorter timeline, don’t worry – our team can still help find the right fit.

Q: How do you help couples decide the best entertainment option for their wedding?

A: It starts with listening. We ask about your guest list, venue, budget and vision for the night. If you want constant energy and crowd interaction, a band may be the best fit. If you’re looking for versatility across multiple genres or a more budget-friendly option, a DJ could be ideal. And for couples who want the best of both worlds, our hybrid options keep the dance floor packed from start to finish.

Q: If a couple is planning their wedding in Raleigh or anywhere in North Carolina, how can they get started with ECE Raleigh?

A: Visit BookECE.com or call our Raleigh office directly at 919-875-1800 to connect with one of our entertainment consultants. From there, we’ll walk you through the process and help you discover entertainment that will make your wedding unforgettable.
