Navy Blue and Coral Wedding at Raleigh’s Melrose Knitting Mill

It’s Wedding Feature Wednesday at Southern Bride & Groom! Today we’re excited to share Jennifer and Chris’ pretty spring navy blue and coral wedding at Raleigh’s Melrose Knitting Mill, captured beautifully by Cara of F8 Photo Studios.

Chris and Jennifer met working in Sales at Cisco and only saw each other at work-related events for several years before Jennifer decided to make a move to Raleigh and everything changed. She randomly moved into a townhouse that was less than a half-mile from where Chris lived and the two began to see a lot more of each other—first as friends—taking day trips and cooking dinner together before Chris worked up enough nerves to ask Jennifer out on an official date.

Chris proposed by recreating that first date, leaving Jennifer flowers and a note to let her know they would be going out to dinner are Coquette, followed by a movie on the lawn at the NC Art Museum. Of course, they were running late to the movie, so, while Jennifer was trying to dart off to the ticket area, Chris was trying to slow her down so he could propose to her along the greenway.

The church they were married in was the church that Chris grew up in. He had known the minster very well since college and works with him regularly when volunteering with the church youth group.

While the guests were arriving, Chris’s uncles played musical pieces on the trumpet and saxophone. The ring bearers and flower girl were Jennifer’s two nephews and niece. At the reception, Chris’s uncle read a poem, which has been a family wedding tradition.

The couple knew they wanted to choose a reception venue located in downtown Raleigh—the place they enjoy most together. Melrose Knitting Mill was just opening at the time, but after touring the venue and seeing the historic and rustic interior, its proximity to downtown Raleigh, the abundant parking, and tasting the delicious food from Babylon, they decided the venue was perfect for them! Another perk about Melrose is that after the wedding reception, you can continue to spend time with friends and family over drinks at Babylon restaurant, located below the venue.

Blue and coral was the color palette for the wedding, mimicked in the J. Crew bridesmaid dresses and floral arrangements. Jennifer wanted to keep everything simple and subtle and liked the traditional feel of navy/royal blue with the pop of spring coral colors for her April wedding.

One big piece of advice she has to share?  “Hire a good wedding planner!” She truly enjoyed working with Chad Biggs Event Planning and Design. “I cannot stress enough how amazing Jessica Tilton was to work with:  She planned every detail and took all of the stress off of us as a couple so that we could focus on our relationship. A good wedding planner makes all the difference and is worth every dollar. I would argue that a wedding planner’s knowledge in the industry and vendor relationships alone likely covers the cost of hiring them,” Jennifer shares.

One of the bride’s favorite moments of the day was the sweetheart dinner that Chad and Jessica setup for the newlyweds to enjoy alone together. They were able to sit for a few minutes and enjoy time as a newly married couple as they looked down at all their friends and family enjoying cocktail hour and reflect on the wonderful life adventure they were embarking on!
