Meet Raleigh Wedding DJ Stylus S.E.

Music is an integral part of weddings, woven into the ceremony, setting the mood during cocktail hour, and defining the after-dinner dance party. SB&G’s preferred DJs are true talents who can make it all happen and then some.

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jason Huggins, owner of Stylus S.E. who has been a full-time wedding professional for 10 years and DJs all styles of weddings from casual beach settings to elegant ballroom affairs. Learn more from our Q&A below.

SB&G: What makes your company unique among the other NC wedding DJ companies?

Stylus S.E.:  Stylus was founded in 2013 and features nine marquee DJs. You don’t have worry if you’re getting ‘the good one.’ We’re all the real deal, as good with your guests’ experience as we are on the mic and on the decks. We’re full-time professionals with multiple residencies around town.

SB&G: How long have you personally been doing wedding DJ work?

Stylus S.E.: I started DJing when I was 16 and I’ve been a full-time wedding professional since 2006. Like all of the Stylus S.E. DJs, I came up in the club scene, playing gigs around the country, and building my skill set and library. That being said, it’s important to understand that you can’t just take a club DJ and expect them to be great at weddings. It’s a totally different type of event that requires an engaging touch with song selection and an adroit microphone presence. My background as a radio presenter, voice actor, and instructor were indispensable development for what would become the career of my dreams. I am so ridiculously lucky that I get to do this full-time and I know it.Raleigh NC Country Club Wedding ReceptionPhoto: Ariel Perry Photography

SB&G: What styles of weddings have you DJ’ed?

Stylus S.E.: We’ve also done every type of wedding. From low-stress gatherings beachside to black-tie affairs in elegant ballrooms and private homes, from mixed crowds to  blended families, we’ve been so successful because our foundational principles are so exacting. Our goal is simple – we’re going to do everything in our power to make sure that YOUR wedding is the best one you’ve ever been to.

SB&G: Who is your ideal couple?

Stylus S.E.: We love clients who like to relax and trust us to deliver an amazing evening, and we love clients who have a clear vision of their event & present creative ideas we can help them achieve. If I had to pick one dream client, it’s the couple who values music and the power it has to elevate, inspire, & transform every experience.

SB&G: Do you offer any other services?

Stylus S.E.: We offer a bunch of additional services, including ceremonies, lighting, photo booths, effects and advanced production, but it’s much easier to just say that we can help you with anything that’s going to help make your wedding day awesome for you and your guests.

SB&G: How far out do you book?

Stylus S.E.: Your average DJ is going to book about six months out, we average a year or more. That doesn’t mean we don’t have availability for this year, it’s just that most of our clients want to secure us as soon as they know they’re getting married because certain dates book up fast. We also get plenty of last-minute calls from coordinators & planners whose clients chose unprofessional bands or DJs who end up canceling. We’re always happy to save the day when we can!

SB&G: What’s the best way to check out your mixes or style?

Stylus S.E.: It’s easy for potential clients to come see us. We have residencies at: Cornerstone Tavern, Solas, Capital City Tavern, Architect, London Bridge, Noir, Still Life, Mosaic, Level Up, and several other places around the Triangle. We encourage you to check out our Facebook page for weekly listings of where we’ll be.

You can also check out our mixes on the website. We put the music front and center because we want you to hear how we’re able to turn the music you love into an experience that’s truly and uniquely yours. That doesn’t mean your wedding is going to sound like the club. Each venue tells us what they want and we deliver, but you’ll see so much variety and creativity you might want to request specific mixes for your own event. You’ll also see us at most of the big bridal shows in the area, we’re the DJs and Emcees of choice for showcase and high visibility events.

SB&G: What’s the best compliment a past bride or groom has ever given you?

Stylus S.E.: I follow up with each and every client and the best compliment we get regularly is the couple who tells us their experience was worth way more than they paid for.
